What Was The Ehrenburg Incident?

On October 18 1865, a Ukrainian housewife would barge into the offices of her local counsel office to   demand action be taken to bring some resolution to the strange incidents occurring in her neighborhood.  The woman would later be identified as Natalia Ehrenburg and the strange series of events she experienced would become known as the “Ehrenburg Incident.”

In the mid-nineteenth century, Ukraine was still under direct imperial rule of Russia.  It was during this period; a young Natalia was born to a shoe peg maker father and a crippled mother who tended to duties of the home.  Natalia was the middle child of 8 siblings, 2 of which didn’t survive early childhood.  At the age of 15, Natalia bore her first child, where she moved to Eastern Ukraine to start a family with a husband who was almost double her age.  

From the start, strange things always seemed to happen to the family. Unusual footprints would always be found in the front of the house from time to time.  At nights, extreme flashes of light would sometimes be seen.  Light that was so bright, many of the neighbors would discuss it afterwards saying that it seemed almost like someone had flipped a switch, turning on the sun for a few seconds.  All the strange occurrences continued unexplained for several years, until one day it suddenly stopped.   One night in July, the family was woken up by the sound of their next-door shouting a series of numbers and letters loudly into the night.  The incident was odd, but they decided to just ignore it to avoid creating any unwanted tension.  The few nights later, the same thing happened again, but this time it was a neighbor a few houses down.  It would continue like this for weeks until it ended completely.

That was until the last and most mysterious event took place.  One night in mid-October, Natalia woke in the middle of the night to find her husband not in bed.  She searched the house for him, only to realize that her son was also missing.  Suddenly, she heard their voices coming from outside the house.  Rushing to the window, she saw them both standing in the yard repeating a series of numbers and letters as the neighbors from months prior.  Her first instinct was to rush out the house to them, however as she opened the door, a blinding light filled her vision.  She claimed the light only lasted a few seconds but when it was gone, the sun was almost up despite the incident happening close to midnight according to her.  To this day, the incident is one of the most under reported cases of an actual documented anomalous event.
